QUEZON CITY, Oct. 31 (PIA)—Barangay Sacred Heart in Quezon City is the recipient of 15 electronic tricycles or e-trikes, part of the 300 units donated by the Department of Energy (DOE) to Quezon City.

In simple rites Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and officials of the city’s Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS)-Green Transport, handed the 15 e-trikes to Sacred Heart Barangay Chairwoman Camille Malig David.

In a statement, Belmonte said several barangays in the Tomas Morato area, which is a known tourist spot destination, agreed to serve as pilot areas for the e-trikes.

“I think that’s the perfect place to pilot this because iyan ang puntahan ng mga tao.

Belmonte expressed optimism that the use of e-trike will start a trend and encourage different tricycle organizations to embrace the use of the latest technology.

The lady Mayor plans to come up with a scheme where the city can entice tricycle drivers to give up their gasoline-powered units and switch to a more environment-friendly e-trike.

The city government will establish a program, which include maintenance, fleet management, charging stations, and other incentives, to make e-trikes more sustainable for tricycle drivers.

Belmonte is set to distribute fleet of e-trikes to more barangays in the coming days. (PIA-NCR/QC PAISD)
