Kayapa town promotes unity, cultural preservation thru IP Day

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Oct. 31 (PIA) – The local government unit here recently conducted its First Indigenous People’s Day to promote unity and cultural preservation.

Pedro Galate, tribal affairs assistant of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) said the IP Day which was locally declared by the LGU through  Municipal Ordinance 2018-09 was attended by various tribes of Kayapa such as Kalanguya, Iwak, Ibaloi, Kankanaey and  Karao,  among others.

Galate added that the IP Day also served as the town’s celebration of Cooperative Month drawing members from various cooperatives such as  the Cooperative Bank of Nueva Vizcaya-Kayapa Branch,  St. Joseph Parish Cooperative, Kayapa Multi Purpose Cooperative, Tam –an Banaue Multi-Purpose Cooperative-Kayapa Branch, Bokod Spring Sulfur Multi-Purpose Cooperative-Kayapa Branch and the Cordillera Community Micro-Finance, Inc-Kayapa Branch.

“This is the first IP Day celebration in our town and we are happy because of the attendance of  our fellow IPs and visitors who joined us in promoting unity, cooperation and cultural preservation,” he said.

Galate also expressed elation over the participation of young IPs during the performance of cultural dances, songs  and other presentations.

“It is good that our children are being taught with their own cultural practices so that they too can understand and perform them accordingly during cultural events and other similar poccassions,” he added.

Galate further said that the IP Day celebration was highlighted by the unity dance ‘Bendian’ and ‘Hagigi’ which  was joined by various IPs and guests ranging from local officials, government agency representatives and villagers of Kayapa.

He said the IP Day was attended by Representative Luisa Cuaresma, Vice Governor Jose Tomas,Sr. NCIP Regional Director Ruben Bastero and Romulo Pumaras, Transportation and Regulations Officer of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), among others.# (MDCT/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
