NAVOTAS CITY, Oct. 31 (PIA) – Navotas City is all set for the observance of this year’s All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

Early this week, Mayor Toby Tiangco led the inspection of the NavoHimlayan public crematorium, columbarium and funeral chapel in Navotas, to ensure the safe and orderly observance of Undas.

“More than 10,000 visit the NavoHimlayan and its adjacent private cemeteries, during Undas. We want to make sure that everything will go smoothly, there are no untoward incidents, and visitors stay safe,” Mayor Tiangco said.

On Friday, November 1, around 700 police, fire officers, city and barangay personnel, health and emergency staff, sweepers, and volunteers will be deployed to man the city cemetery.

The city government also tapped the Philippine Army, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA(, and Philippine Red Cross for additional manpower.

“We expect 15,000 visitors this year that’s why we want to be prepared for any eventuality,” he added.

Likewise, the city government advised residents to finish cleaning tombs and niches ahead of Undas. Further, residents and visitors were advised to refrain from bringing weapons or any sharp objects, firearms, liquor or alcoholic drinks, gambling paraphernalia, and loudspeakers inside the cemetery. Parents and guardians are also encouraged to ensure that their children wear IDs bearing their name, contact details and address in case they get separated.

Meanwhile, the city also announced the closure of Gov. Pascual St., from A. Ignacio St., Brgy. Daanghari to Los Martirez St., Brgy. San Jose, from October 31, 1 pm to November 2 at 12:01 a.m.

The local chief executive also appealed to the public to practice zero waste in the cemetery. “Please refrain from irresponsible disposal of trash. Let’s respect the final resting place of our departed loved ones and let’s keep it clean always,” Tiangco said. (PIA-NCR/ PIO Navotas)
