Pangasinan is again proclaimed as the Best NSM Province Implementer in Region 1

Pangasinan was once again proclaimed as the Best NSM (National Statistics Month) Province Implementer in Region 1.

The award was given during the 30th Regional NSM Month Closing Ceremony held at the Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Office in San Fernando, La Union on October 29.

Pangasinan has successfully hurdled the feat after the provincial government led by Gov. Amado I. Espino III has “done an extra mile of promoting statistics” via numerous programs and projects that were institutionalized over the years.

Atty Sheila O. De Guzman, vice chair of Regional Statistics Committee (RSC) and the officer-in-charge of the Phil. Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Office, commended the province for its contribution to the betterment of statistics development in the region as proven by its various noteworthy undertakings.

It can be noted that Pangasinan was cited as the Best NSM Province Implementer in the years 2008, 2009 and 2010 and again in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Hence, Pangasinan was elevated to the Hall of Fame status in Region 1 twice wherein the first of which was in 2011 and the second in 2017.

In 2018, the PSA conducted a nationwide search on the Best LGU Advocate for Statistics and Pangasinan bagged the award.

Earlier, Provincial Planning and Development Officer Benita M. Pizarro disclosed that the strong leadership of the Espinos (pertaining to the former governor and 5th district representative Amado T. Espino, Jr. and Gov. Pogi) and the involvement of everyone to include both the private and public sectors in the NSM have been the key to the province’s success for the past years.

Aside from the usual annual contests like oratorical, essay writing, poster-slogan, statistical quiz, and jingle-singing, this year’s NSM celebration of the provincial government thru the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) was highlighted by different activities such as the following: statistical exhibit, job fair, skills enhancement training, organic fertilizer production training, fish processing training, cyber-security seminar, hands-on training on nursery establishment and plant propagation, mushroom production training, cassava production training, bangus processing training, skills training on culture of tilapia and hito, institutional development training for SWISSA Federation of Pangasinan.

Another praiseworthy project this year was the launching of the Satellite Regional development Knowledge Center located at the PPDO-Research and Statistics Section in Malong Building.

Champions in the different regional contests also received their plaque of recognitions and cash prizes during the closing program. The regional champions from Pangasinan are as follows: are Angelo Joshua C. Pamo of Alaminos City National High School and Virgilio Estrella III of the Pangasinan State University-Urdaneta Campus for the poster-slogan making contest secondary and tertiary, respectively; John Angel Macairap of Benigno V. Aldana National High School in Pozorrubio town for oratorical-secondary; and Rico V. Romero, Kenneth Christian Y. Morales and Hazel B. Aycocho  from Colegio San Jose de Alaminos for statistics quiz-secondary level.

The following are the ranking of the other three provinces: Ilocos Sur (2nd place), La Union (3rd place), and Ilocos Norte (4th place).
