RDC-Caraga cites contributions of former top cop

BUTUAN CITY--The Regional Development Council in Caraga Region (RDC-Caraga) on Tuesday recognized the "selfless dedication and exemplary contributions" of Brig. Gen. Gilberto Cruz, the former regional director of the Police Regional Office-Caraga.

During its 4th Quarter Council Meeting, the council recognized Cruz for the accomplishments of PRO-Caraga during his tenure, including the recovery of 164 bricks of cocaine valued at over PHP1 billion, considered the biggest recovery of illegal drugs in the entire country.

Cruz was also cited for the confiscation of 949 grams of shabu and 287,630 grams of marijuana.

He was also recognized for the conduct of several outreach programs in insurgency-affected areas that benefited more than 120,000 residents in the region, including the "Lakbay-Hukay” initiative that provided decent burial to the victims of terrorism in the region.

On the administrative aspect, the council cited Cruz for increasing the logistical assets of the PNP in the region that includes the provisions of new patrol cars, utility trucks, and firearms as part of the PNP Capability Enhancement Program and the building of the standard type of police stations.

Likewise, RDC-Caraga noted that during his term, the PNP in Caraga region topped the nationwide Crime Solution Efficiency for three consecutive years.

The council also recognized the efforts of the PNP for the conduct of peaceful midterm elections in the area.

Brig. Gen. Ernesto V. Flores, the deputy regional director for administration of PNP-Caraga, received the plaque on behalf of Cruz, who was appointed acting director of Integrated Police Operations in Northern Luzon last month.

Cruz was replaced by Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel Jr. (PNA)
