US Embassy holds seminar for journalists on maritime security
DAGUPAN CITY, Oct. 31 (PIA) – The Public Affairs Section of the United States (US) Embassy in the Philippines conducted the 11th Media Seminar held at the Hotel Jen in Pasay City recently in celebration of World Maritime Day.
At least 30 private and government journalists in Manila and select provinces have been invited to participate in this year’s seminar which focused on reporting about maritime security issues.
In a message, Philip Roskamp, public affairs counselor of the US Embassy in the Philippines, said the Philippines is blessed with rich marine resources but is also under threat by human activities and natural calamities.
“As journalists, you have a critical role to play of educating the community about the importance of protecting marine resources,” Roskamp said.
He added that timely and accurate information empowers people in the community to help in preserving marine resources for future generations.
Further, he said that this is the first time that journalists from outside of Manila were involved in the seminar for them to develop network, an opportunity to engage with other reporters in the country and use each other as resources of information.
The program included a session with a US-based speaker as well as experts from the media, academe and the Philippine government. (AMB/PIA Pangasinan)
