Diwata backs Baguio's urban renewal efforts

 
BAGUIO CITY, Nov. 29(PIA) –The  all-women in mining group Diwata - Women in Resource Development, Inc. with the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) partnered with the city government of Baguio in  planting  more than 500 bougainvillea plants in support of the urban renewal efforts of the City.
 
Diwata Chairperson Delia Domingo-Albert with City Tourism Officer Alec Mapalo, Arlene Magalong, wife of Mayor Benjamin Magalong, and some of  councilors led the ceremonial planting of the bougainvillea plants at Burnham Park as part of the  66th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment (ANSMEC) Conference here. They were joined by Zonta Club of Baguio, Baguio Chrysanthemum Lions Club, Rotary Club of Baguio and the Pine Cone Movement.

DIWATA is a non-government organization advocating the responsible development of the Philippines’ wealth in resources, principally, extractive industries such as mining, oil and gas, quarrying, and other mineral resources from the earth for processing. It provides a platform for the promotion of responsible development of the country’s resources and promotion of initiatives, to protect the land and its communities, particularly our indigenous people – their livelihood, health, education, and culture.
 
Albert said this activity intends  is to make positive, tangible and permanent contributions to the continued beautification of Baguio City, which has been the host to PMSEA and ANMSEC for many years now. 

The former Foreign Affairs Secretary  bared that they plan to make the event a yearly activity and even during the Panagbenga season to showcase the beauty of the bougainvillea and its colorful flowers to city locals and tourists . 

Baguio City has been home to the PMSEA and ANMSEC for 66 years  now hosting thousands of individuals from the mining industry and other related fields.

As part of their corporate social responsibility and a support to the city, the  PMSEA with the different mining companies have been sponsoring and planting trees in the city .

PMSEA has adopted a portion of the Botanical Garden which has become the showcase of the park featuring endemic kinds of plants. This  is  supported by the Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company, Oceana Gold Philippines, Philex Mining Corporation, Filminera Resources Corporation and SyCip, Gorres, Velayo & Co.
