Abra PUV operators to strictly enforce physical distancing

BANGUED, Abra, May 9(PIA) -- With the entire province under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) now, the operation of public utility vehicles (PUV) is gradually restarting but with limited capacity in keeping with the social distancing policy

In the municipality of Bangued, Acting Mayor Joaquin Enrico Bernos directed all tricycle drivers and their associations to strictly observe the “One Tricycle, One Passenger Only” policy. This is a precautionary measure against the spread of the Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19).

In Lagayan municipality, jeepneys operating per barangay strictly adhere to the enforcement of physical or social distancing in loading their passengers. Mayor Edmarc Crisologo appealed to jeepney operators to limit passengers to 50% of the total seating capacity of the vehicle.

“Jeepney operators here in the municipality have taken measures in order for a limited seating capacity to be followed. They installed seat barriers in their vehicles to prevent crowded seating,”Lagayan Acting Information Officer Joe Ervick Cruz said.

All local executives have started implementing a per barangay schedule allowed to enter in Bangued. Being the center of commerce in the province, there are schedules created by LGUs already which allow some barangays of their municipality to enter Bangued every day to access basic and essential services. This approach is recommended by the Provincial Task Force on Corona Virus in order to avoid the influx of people in the capital town.

The PTF reminds the public to always bring their GCQ pass and valid identification cards to be presented at Covid-19 checkpoints and to observe preventive measures such as use of facemasks while outside the residence, proper handwashing and cough etiquette and social distancing.
