Farmer nabbed for gun possession while queuing for SAP aid

COTABATO CITY – A 45-year-old farmer, who was queuing for the distribution of the social amelioration program, was nabbed by police for illegal gun possession Thursday.

Brig. Gen. Manuel Abu, director of the Police Regional Office in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PRO-BARMM), identified the suspect as Gomi Sagaran Matalam of Barangay Raguisi, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao.

The suspect was nabbed at the Sandakan Elementary School in Barangay Sandakan.

“Matalam caught the attention of the police securing the SAP distribution center when he was seen roaming around with a concealed handgun tucked in his waist that was obviously visible even from afar,” Abu said.

When police accosted him, Matalam could not present any document. Seized from him was a .45 caliber pistol with ammunition.

The suspect is facing violation of Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. (PNA)
