Local transmission confirmed in CDO

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, May 9 (PIA) – Department of Health (DOH)-10 Regional Director Adriano P. Suba-an has confirmed a local transmission of voronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the city during the Northern Mindanao Inter Agency Task Force (NM-IATF) press conference on Friday, May 8.

Meanwhile, Dr. David Mendoza, assistant regional director of the DOH-10 explained the criteria for declaring a local transmission in a certain area such as 1) if the case cannot  be linked to where the patient got infected and 2) when there are two barangays affected with the virus.

The other criterion is that of the World Health Organization (WHO), which is clustering cases in a household - meaning when there are three or more who have contracted the virus in a household.

"In Cagayan de Oro, there are seven recorded positive cases, four of them died, two are currently out-patient and one had recovered," Dr. Suba-an said.

In Barangay Camaman-an, two of the family members of the COVID-19 patient also tested positive for the virus. Thus, there are three positive cases in the same household, indicating a local transmission.

Also, the DOH could not trace where the COVID-19 patients from barangays Carmen, Lumbia and Camaman-an got the infection.

To avoid further spread of the virus, it is now up to the local government to impose more stringent measures to control and prevent the spread of COVID 19, Suba-an added.

Although a local transmission now happens in the city, the DOH urges everyone to help fight the pandemic.

"Pinpointing or blaming in this time of pandemic crisis will not solve nor flatten the curve of COVID 19. We need to work as one," Suba-an concluded.  (JAKA/PIA10)
