Magnitude 5.4 quake jolts Occidental Mindoro
MANILA – An earthquake with a magnitude 5.4 rocked Occidental Mindoro in the early hours of Sunday.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the quake struck at 3:18 a.m., 35 kilometers northeast of Lubang Island with a depth of 76 kilometers.
The tectonic quake was also felt in some parts of Luzon including Metro Manila.
Phivolcs reported intensities in the following areas:
-- Intensity IV in Makati, Manila and Parañaque.
-- Intensity III in Malabon; Mandaluyong; Pasay; Pateros; Quezon City; Taguig; Tagaytay City, Cavite; Calapan and Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; and Calatagan and Lipa City, Batangas.
Instrumental intensities:
-- Intensity IV in Malolos City, and San Ildefonso, Bulacan; Navotas City
-- Intensity III in Talisay, Batangas; Bacoor City, and Tagaytay City, Cavite; Muntinlupa City; Guagua, Pampanga
-- Intensity II in Magalang, Pampanga; San Juan City
-- Intensity I in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Palayan City, and San Jose City, Nueva Ecija; Gumaca, Quezon; Baler, Aurora.
While damages are not expected, Phivolcs warned against aftershocks. (PNA)
