Marikina lifts liquor ban, advises public to take alcohol home
PASIG CITY, May 17 (PIA) – The Marikina City Government on Saturday has lifted the liquor ban in the city after more than a month since it was strictly imposed amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) period.
Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro signed City Ordinance No. 64, series of 2020, modifying the Liquor Ban in the City of Marikina, which now allows the sale of liquors and other alcoholic drinks. The ordinance also covers online delivery services of said beverages.
The city government, however, advised the public to consume alcoholic drinks only inside their residence while observing social distancing measures and other health and safety protocols.
Meanwhile, drinking in public places, in restaurants, or bars is still prohibited.
Marikina and the rest of the cities and municipality in the National Capital Region are now under the modified enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
To recall, two other Metro Manila local government units, namely Pasay City and Quezon City, have already relaxed their liquor bans before the modified ECQ took place, with restrictions similar to Marikina City's. (PIA-NCR)
