PCG gets 3 fiberglass boats from BFAR-10 to boost drive vs. illegal fishing

ILIGAN CITY, May 22 (PIA) -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-Lanao del Norte turned over 3 sets of fiberglass boats to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)- Lanao del Norte to heighten its drive against illegal fishing in the Panguil Bay area.

Noel Saldajeno, BFAR Provincial Fisheries Director, said the32-footer fiberglass reinforced plastic boats are complete with accessories and have diesel-operated marine engines that can augment PCG's seaborne operations.

During the turnover, Saldajeno cited the partnership and support of the PCG and PCG Auxiliary in protecting Panguil Bay from illegal fishing.

"Nakikita ng BFAR na all-out efforts sila. Wala silang pinapanigan at ginagampanan talaga nila ang kanilang tungkulin being the guardians of the sea, kaya di kami nag-alangan na magbigay sa kanila ng assistance," he said.

[BFAR sees their all-out efforts. They are impartial and they really do their job as guardians of the sea, so we did not hesitate to give them assistance.]

Captain Dexter Torres of PCG said the fiberglass boats will boost their patrol and seaborne operations. He also assured that they will intensify their drive against illegal fishing activities and those fisherfolks who will not follow the health protocols to curb the spread of coronavirus.
