2K PUJ drivers in Cotabato City negative for Covid-19

COTABATO CITY – Tests conducted on 2,263 public utility jeepneys drivers in the city turned out negative for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), a city health official said Tuesday.

Dr. Meyasser Patadon, city health officer, said this development shows that the city government has been effective so far in implementing health protocols against the disease.

“Three initially came out reactive to the rapid test but tested negative in subsequent confirmatory procedures,” he said in a statement.

Patadon said next in line for Covid-19 tests are some 1,000 market employees and vendors who are considered among the highly exposed sector in the city.

“We will initially test 200 – 300 market people randomly and if all came out negative, then we will discontinue the tests,” he said.

Currently, he said 14 out of 15 reported confirmed cases in the city have fully recovered, with only a 38-year-old locally stranded individual (LSI) with a travel history to Manila remaining in the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC) Covid-19 treatment facility.

On Sunday, the 14th patient, a 33-year-old LSI also with travel history to Manila was discharged from the CRMC isolation wing. (PNA)
