All preparations up for possible resumption of jail visitation - BJMP

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, July 27 (PIA) - While all the 19 jail facilities of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) here remain COVID–free, the management has crafted an implementation plan should jail visitation be allowed in the coming days by the National Headquarters (NHQ).

JCInsp. Samuel Carodan, warden of Tuguegarao City District Jail – Male Dormitory (TCDJ-MD) said jail visitation was temporary suspended during the declaration of Enhanced Community Quarantine in Luzon on March 17 up to present but as early as now, they have crafted guidelines should the national headquarters orders for its resumption since Cagayan Valley is now under Modified General Community Quarantine.

For the male dormitory, a shield or barrier has been installed in the designated visiting area which ensures that there will be no close contact between the PDL and the visitor.

“One visitor per PDL is allowed and only medicines are allowed to be brought inside the jail, no other else,” Carodan said added that visitors must observe minimum health standard when entering the facility and must undergo footbath/disinfection and thermal scanning.

While the BJMP understands the longing of PDL to their family, the TCDJ - MD explain that their visitors should comply with the standards required by the bureau to ensure that they will remain COVID-19-free.

He said anyone who manifests symptoms like fever will not be allowed to enter the jail.

For the TCDJ – Female Dorm, JInsp. Susan Encarnacion said one visitor per PDL is allowed within an hour wherein visiting hours is from Tuesday to Friday from 1:00 pm to 4pm  and Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am to 12 noon and will resume at 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

“However, disinfection in the visiting area will be every 30 minutes to ensure safety of all,” she added.

She said jail visitation is not allowed every Monday since this is allotted for general cleaning and disinfection.

The wardens emphasized that the resumption of jail visitation shall commence upon approval of the COVID – 19  National Inter-agency task Force (IATF). (MDCT/GVB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
