DTI holds e-summit to support businesses during COVID

QUEZON CITY, July 22 (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) begins the five-day e-summit themed “MSMEs’ Recovery to Resilience” Monday, July 20, to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) during this COVID-19 period.

DTI Secretary Ramon M. Lopez said that the COVID-19 crisis brought a halt to 26% of businesses in the country, while 52% were able to partially open, and only 22% remained open.

The first day of the National MSME Week E-Forum 1 centered on ‘Building an Enabling Business Environment for Resilient and Sustainable Enterprises’.

This discussion was in line with DTI’s stake in the country’s ‘Way Forward’ as presented by Sec. Lopez where DTI aims to “Rebuild PH” by “revitaliz[ing] businesses, investments, livelihoods and bringing back domestic demands.”

In this forum, self-help trends and e-learning modules were launched and Philippine Trade and Training Center (PTTC) webinars on Innovative Financing Series were also scheduled starting July 20 to 24, from 1:00 to 5:00PM.

For the next four days, MSMEs and other participants are set to engage in e-fora on ‘Inclusive Financial Innovation for Recovery and Sustaining Enterprises (July 21),’ ‘Developing Resilient Entrepreneurs as Drivers of Innovation (July 22),’ ‘Leveraging on Technological Innovation for Disaster-proof and Sustainable Enterprises (July 23),’ and ‘Riding the Wave of Digital Transformation for Sustainable Enterprises (July 25).’

The summit is being conducted via the Zoom online platform and streamed via Facebook Live of DTI Philippines: https://www.facebook.com/DTI.Philippines/

In its public advisory, DTI stated that the summit “highlight[s] both the public and private sector response to the crisis in order to minimize the negative impacts, support business operations continuity, and protect workers’ rights, focused on innovative market-based approaches and solutions to help MSMEs recover and promote their participation in economic activities.”
