Belmonte warns QC establishments violating quarantine protocols

CALOOCAN CITY, Sept. 27 (PIA) -- Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte strongly warned establishments such as restobars, night clubs and karaoke bars that continue to operate amid the general community quarantine (GCQ), saying drinking in public leads to rise in number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

This, after the city government shut down on Saturday, Guilly’s Island night club in Tomas Morato and arrested over 100 individuals caught partying in the restobar

“Binabalaan natin ang mga may-ari ng bar at nightclub na itigil na ang kanilang ilegal na ginagawa dahil mahuhuli at mahuhuli namin kayo,” Belmonte said.

“Inilalagay niyo sa panganib ang buhay ng inyong mga customer at iba pang mga residente dahil ang pag-inom sa publiko ay isa sa mga rason sa pagtaas ng kaso ng COVID-19 sa ating lungsod,” she added.

Under the separate GCQ guidelines issued by Belmonte in August, operation of restobars, night clubs, and other leisure and entertainment centers are prohibited. Restobars can only operate as restaurants.

While the mayor understood the need to jumpstart the city’s economy, she said the health and safety of its citizens must not be compromised.

“Nais man nating simulan ang muling pagbuhay ng ekonomiya ng lungsod, hindi natin maaaring isantabi ang mga isyung pangkalusugan na maaaring makaapekto sa karamihan,” she said.

Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) chief Ret. Gen. Elmo San Diego, Task Force Disiplina head Rannie Ludovica, and Business Permits and Licensing Department (BPLD) inspector Edgardo Bayabos served the closure ordered on Guilly’s Island night club for violating GCQ guidelines.

“We will continue to work with the Quezon City Police District on this matter para masigurong hindi muna mag-operate ang mga negosyo na hindi pa puwedeng magbukas sa ngayon,” San Diego said.

According to Barangay South Triangle chairman Pedro Battung Jr., authorities arrested over 100 community quarantine violators, including bar personnel, who were caught partying at Guilly’s Island night club for violating quarantine guidelines and health protocols set by the city.

“Nagpadala na kami sa management ng letter stating their violations. We were expecting na titigil muna sila sa operasyon, ngunit patuloy pa rin sila,” Battung explained.

After the closure, the BPLD will further evaluate the business and will impose the necessary punishment. (QC PAISD/PIA-NCR)
