Pasig City passes ordinance prohibiting loud sounds from videoke, audio devices

PASIG CITY, Nov. 3 (PIA) -- The City Council of Pasig has passed an ordinance prohibiting loud sounds from videoke machines and other audio devices in consideration of students who are taking online classes as part of the blended learning approach due to COVID-19.

The Ordinance No. 50, Series of 2020 entitled “An Ordinance Prohibiting Excessive, Unnecessary and Unusually Loud Sounds Generated from Videoke Systems or other Amplified Audio Devices within the Residential Areas and along Public Streets in Pasig City, and further Providing for Violation thereof, Subject to All Laws and Existing Legal Rules and Regulations and for Other Purposes” also imposes penalties for violators.

Based on the ordinance, “operation and use videoke/karaoke system and other amplified devices in residential areas and along public streets or road sides shall be strictly prohibited within the territorial jurisdiction of the City of Pasig from Monday to Friday except holidays at six o’clock in the morning until six o’clock in the evening (6:00am to 6:00pm) and no permit shall be issued during prohibited hours.”

The measure also stated that the operation and use of devices in areas mentioned shall be prohibited from Monday to Sunday at ten o’clock in the evening until six o’clock in the morning (10:00pm to 6:00am).

Likewise, the ordinance said that a barangay permit is necessary for the operation and use of devices.

“As such, whenever allowed and not limited in the prohibited days and hours mentioned, applicants shall first obtain a barangay permit for the operation and use of the devices as provided in Ordinance No. 56, S. of 2017,” the ordinance states. (PIA-NCR)
