Modern PUJs to ply Allen-Catarman, Allen-Calbayog routes

CATARMAN, Northern Samar, Dec. 16 (PIA) -- Modern Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) has started its operation for Allen-Catarman and Allen Calbayog routes after its grand launching on December 8, 2020 held at Allen St. James the Greater Plaza, Allen, Northern Samar.

The 45 modern jeepneys as presented and drive-tested through a motorcade are owned by the Allen Municipal Officials Employees and Communities Multi-Purpose Cooperative (AMOEC-MPS) financed by the Land Bank of the Philippines.

Regional Director Gualberto N. Gualberto of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board 8 (LTFRB-8) voiced his support and congratulated AMOEC-MPS in its venture in leading the transport groups in the modernization of public utility vehicles.

This is in response to the PUV modernization program of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, he said, adding that this is the first in Northern Samar and in the whole Samar Island.

LTFRB is serious in the implementation of the modernization program and committed to its thrust in providing a comfortable, safe, reliable and convenient transport to the commuting public, Gualberto said.

The AMOEC-MPS on the other hand, assured operators and drivers of old jeepneys of their livelihood.

All 74 operators and drivers will be hired as drivers of the modern jeepneys with a daily wage and share of monthly income.

During the launching, Northern Samar local officials, Governor Edwin Ongchuan, and Allen Mayor Jose Arturo Suan extended their congratulatory video messages to AMOEC-MPS and wished the cooperative for its successful operation. (ldl/ADiaz/PIA-Northern Samar)
