COVID-19 cases in Apayao breach 100-mark

BAGUIO CITY, Jan. 13, (PIA) -- The Corona Virus Disease in the province of Apayao breached the 100 mark over the weekend.

The provincial government of Apayao reported on Saturday two new COVID-19 cases and another case on Sunday bringing the number of infected individuals in the province to 101.

The first case is a 30 year old female resident of Capannikian, Pudtol and a locally stranded individual who came home from Solana, Cagayan last December 31, 2020. She was put on home quarantine and was swabbed six days later which  tested positive for COVID-19. 

The second case is a 30 year old female police officer currently stationed at Poblacion, Kabugao but a resident of Tabuk City, Kalinga. She arrived in Kabugao last January 3.

On Sunday, another COVID-19 case was recorded in the province, a 62 year old female teacher and a resident of Poblacion, Kabugao.  She had travel history to Tuguegarao City in Cagayan.

Meanwhile, two new COVID-19 confirmed cases were recorded on January 12. Both are LSIs and asymptomatic.

To facilitate contact tracing efforts, individuals who have had contacts and interactions with the new  cases are encouraged to come forward and coordinate with their  respective rural health units. 

Apayao now has a total of 103 COVID-19 case with 95 recoveries, six active cases and two COVID-19 related deaths. The province  remains  to have the least number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the Cordillera region.

Governor Eleanor Bulut-Begtang reiterates the  call  to  the public to continue to practicing minimum health standards and protocols to protect oneself from the infection of the COVID-19. She said that the public should always wear facemasks and face shields, maintaining proper hygiene by washing of hands and use of alcohols, and maintaining social distancing by avoiding crowd drawing activities and places.
