New BJMP-Naval District Jail building to be operational by March
NAVAL, Biliran, Jan. 26 (PIA) -- Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology- Naval District Jail, will soon have a new and comfortable home as the new jail facility is expected to be inaugurated in March this year.
"The P8.9-M worth BJMP-Naval District Jail Building will be operational by March," said SJO4 Felix Eduardo K. Carcellar, OIC-Provincial Administrator/Jail Warden in an interview.
However, Carcellar informed that the facility would be used earlier as they are now fast-tracking the needed certificate of occupancy from the local Bureau of Fire Protection, a requirement needed for its occupancy.
The two-storey building can accommodate 260 PDLs as the standard set by BJMP, he said.
He further said that the new jail facility has eight jail rooms to accommodate more or less 36 PDLs per room.
"The new jail facility has a roof deck for sunning area, with triple deck bed banks and has a control gate in every cell in addition to the main cell gate," he further informed.
He added that the new jail facility is a well secured and ventilated.
The BJMP-Naval District Jail head further said that he is also planning of putting up an extension to the new jail facility to serve as training center for the PDLs.
The BJMP-Naval District Jail has received numerous awards and recognition under his leadership, and is expected to receive more awards and recognition with the new and modern jail facility said an observer. (ldl/rsv/PIA Biliran)
