PRRD to lead Bonifacio rites in Caloocan

QUEZON CITY, Nov. 29 (PIA) -- President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will lead tomorrow, Nov. 30, the 155th birth anniversary of Filipino revolutionary leader Andres Bonifacio.

The President will lead the flag raising and wreath laying ceremonies at 3:30 pm, at the Bonifacio National Monument, the center of this year’s commemorative program, along EDSA in Caloocan City.

Other historical sites commemorating the event are the Bonifacio Trial House, Maragondon, Cavite; Bonifacio Memorial Shrine, beside Manila City Hall; Bonifacio Monument, Balintawak (Cloverleaf), Quezon City; Bonifacio Monument, Tutuban Center, Manila; and the Bonifacio Monument, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Upon his arrival, Duterte will be assisted by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairman Rene R. Escalante; NHCP Acting Executive Director Ludovico D. Badoy; AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Carlito G. Galvez, Jr.; First District of Caloocan Congressman Gale Gonzalo Malapitan; Second District of Caloocan Congressman Edgar R. Erice; Caloocan City Mayor Oscar G. Malapitan; and Mr. Ron Paulo Bonifacio, representing the Bonifacio family.

This year’s theme, “Bonifacio 2018: Tapang, Sakripisyo, Pagbabago,” exemplifies the courage and boldness of the Supremo that Filipinos should emulate.

It can be recalled that one of the greatest legacies of Bonifacio was the establishment of the Kataastaasang, Kagalang-galangan, Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan also known as Katipunan, or KKK, an underground revolutionary movement, which eventually ended three centuries of colonialism under the Spaniards.

This year’s observance is led by the NHCP, in coordination with the City Government of Caloocan and other government agencies. (PIA-NCR)
