Abello.

Abello said the award is an initiative that aims to recognize the outstanding achievements of our Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) and their families and to promote success stories about the OFW families' resilience amidst the challenges of overseas employment.

Religious organizations, non-government organizations (NGOs), People’s Organizations (POs), OFW Family Circles (OFCs), and community-based socio-civic organizations can nominate a family from Central Visayas whose head is a land-based or sea-based OFW, who could be the father or the mother, including a widow or a widower, said Abello.

The OFW must have at least four years work experience overseas and can be either presently or formerly working abroad.

For former OFWs, one must have returned to the country for good for not more than 10 years from the date of the nomination.

Lastly, the OFW must not be a holder of an elective /appointive position in national/local office and has no derogatory record.

MOFYA winners will be chosen based on these criteria: wholesomeness of the OFW family, involvement of the OFW and family in civic/community affairs, success of OFWs and/or family member/s’ education or profession, and success in managing family finances.

One winner from each category, land-based and sea-based, will be chosen to represent Region 7 in the national competition.
