'Onyok' brings rains over north Luzon, to leave PH Monday night

MANILA -- Some provinces in northern Luzon will experience rainy weather as typhoon Onyok (international name 'Mitag) slowed down as it continues to move over the Philippine Sea.In its 5 a.m. severe weather bulletin Monday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said 'Onyok' was spotted 180 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of up to 120 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 150 kph.Moving northwest at 20 kph, the trough of 'Onyok' will bring scattered light to moderate rain showers and isolated thunderstorms over Cagayan, Apayao and Ilocos provinces.Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 is raised over Batanes and Babuyan Islands. Maasin City vet holds mass dog castration

MAASIN CITY, Sept. 28 (PIA) -- A total of 12 dogs were castrated during the one-day mass dog castration conducted by the Maasin City LGU through its Veterinary Office, September 25.The activity, funded by the city government of Maasin, prepared vials of anesthesia, antibiotics, anti-vomiting medicines and other needed supplies for the said purpose, Dr. Rams Dizon, veterinarian, said.“Each vial of anesthesia can serve an average of 3-4 dogs depending on the weight of the dog, Dizon said.Maasin City has a total dog population of 7,551 based on its 2018 records. “Weekly castration and anti-rabies vaccination were done regularly, though it depends on the availability of vaccines, among other medicines,” he said.Meanwhile, a total of 800 anti-rabies vaccines sourced from the city government funds were just delivered this week and another 600 vials (same vaccines) were handed by the Provincial Veterinary Office through the P1.4 million allocated anti-rabies vaccines of the provincial govern…

State agencies working on policy to prevent explosive dengue outbreaks

IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay, (PIA) Sept. 30 - With common cause to find sustainable means to unload national burden of dengue, agencies of government come together to visit cities and provinces of Region 9 for the monitoring and evaluation for dengue outbreak.Lead by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) 9, the monitoring team composed of agencies of government, recenlty visited Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga City to assess and evaluate the extent of intervention provided by the LGU and local  strategies implemented to lessen the menace of dengue specially when the incidence has grown dramatically in the recent months .
